Job Fairs Hosted by Office of Black Male Advancement Starting March 16
Job fairs aimed at ensuring that Black men are connected with City services and employment opportunities across City departments.
Building on her commitment to bring City Hall out of City Hall and into each of Boston’s vibrant neighborhoods, today Mayor Michelle Wu announced that the City of Boston is holding a third set of virtual job fairs. The March Job Fairs will be with the Mayor’s Office of Black Male Advancement, a new office within the Equity & Inclusion Cabinet that seeks to ensure Black men and boys have support to thrive and share in our City’s prosperity.
“This initiative has connected over one thousand residents with City Hall,” said Mayor Michelle Wu. “As we work to build a robust and equitable City workforce, I’m grateful to our City departments and looking forward to this initiative connecting Black men and boys with opportunities and services in city government.”
“The Black Male Advancement Job Fairs are intended to create pathways to better economic opportunities for Black men and boys living in Boston,” said Frank Farrow, Executive Director for the Mayor's Office of Black Male Advancement. “Our office is focused on addressing the inequities that have kept many residents out of City government. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues to ensure that Black males are connected to this initiative.”
The Black Male Advancement job fairs will ensure that Black men and boys have equitable access to employment opportunities with the City of Boston, job support services and gain a better understanding of city services and departments . Each job fair will last an hour and a half and include presentation breakout rooms by attending departments, a panel by Black men who work in the City to discuss their experiences, a resume building presentation, live application support, and offer future opportunities for 1:1 resume workshops, mock interviews and CORI sealing.
For the upcoming job fairs, participating departments will include: Boston Police Department (BPD), Department of Innovation & Technology, Economic Opportunity & Inclusion, Boston Water & Sewer, Food Justice, Veterans Services, Public Facilities, Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) , Age Strong, and Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC).
The March Job Fairs are on the following dates with the corresponding departments:
- Wednesday, March 16, 6 p.m.
- Age Strong, Boston Water & Sewer, Boston Centers for Youth & Families, Public Facilities
- Saturday, March 19, 10 a.m.
- Boston Police Department, Department of Innovation and Technology, Economic Opportunity and Inclusion
The first two rounds of Job Fairs were held virtually through January with the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT), Boston Public Schools (BPS), and various city departments. With over 1450 individuals registering to attend, the previous City of Boston Job Fairs provided an opportunity for residents to learn more about city government and get connected to employment opportunities
