The Director of Climate Resilience reports to the Commissioner of the Environment Department, and interacts with all segments of Boston’s municipal government and of the Boston community. As part of the management team of the Environment Department, they will work closely with other members of the management team and have important administrative responsibilities.

The Contracts and Grants/Finance Manager has responsibility for the administrative management of grants and contracts of the Environment Department. This includes assistance to program staff in the development of grant applications and RFPs, oversight of selection and contracting processes, and management of financial flows. The Contracts and Grants/Finance Manager also assists in budget preparation, requisitions, HR processes, and general office management. This position reports to the Director of Office Administration and Finance.

• The BERDO Assistant will support activities related to the Building Emissions Reduction and Disclosure Ordinance (BERDO), and other building decarbonization policies and programs of the Environment Department. BERDO requires buildings greater than 20,000 square feet or 15 units to report their annual energy usage to the City and to meet declining emissions standards, achieving net -zero emissions by 2050. The City makes the resulting metrics on energy and greenhouse emissions publicly available. The BERDO Assistant will work to support activities related to the BERDO ordinance, and other building decarbonization policies and programs of the Environment Department.

The Director of Environmental Quality reports to the Commissioner of the Environment Department, and interacts with all segments of Boston’s municipal government and of the Boston community. As part of the management team of the Environment Department, they will work closely with other members of the management team and have important administrative responsibilities

• Become thoroughly familiar with the Wetlands Protection Act & Regulations, Boston Wetlands Ordinance & Regulations, and related policies. Respond to inquiries from the public about application procedures and deadlines, conservation issues, wetlands, and floodplain management. Identify obstacles to increased climate-preparedness activity by individuals, small and large businesses, and institutions.

The Climate and Environmental Planning team is responsible for the Environment Department’s work in developing and implementing the City’s climate action plan, including climate adaptation, greenhouse gas mitigation and zero waste efforts, developing and enforcing regulations in traditional environmental areas such as air pollution, noise and wetlands protection and overseeing the review of development projects from a climate, environmental, and sustainability perspective. The CEP Project Managers will report to the Director of Climate and Environmental Planning and work with the team to advance the City’s environmental goals and support implementation of these initiatives. 

• Stays current with scientific developments and conveys them in practical terms to stakeholders. 
• Supports neighborhood climate resilience planning and develops proposals for extending planning into additional neighborhoods.
• Supports the management of projects to develop specific plans and projects that address risks from longer and more frequent heat waves, more intense precipitation, and higher sea levels and coastal flooding
• Support the development and convening of local and regional infrastructure agencies and operators.
• Assists in coordinating and mainstreaming internal and external activities related to climate preparedness within City Hall and works with City agencies to expand the awareness of climate preparedness in their activities.
• Support the development of resources for residents, small businesses, and other stakeholders to take action.
• Leads innovative community outreach around climate preparedness.
• Performs related work as required.

Under the guidance of the Director of the Office of Food Justice, the Boston Double Up Food Bucks Program Manager will work to improve equitable access to nutritious food with respect to affordability, physical accessibility, and cultural appropriateness. The Program Manager will specifically manage the implementation of the Boston Double Up Food Bucks program to reduce food insecurity and increase equitable food access.

The Deputy Director will lead operational, planning and evaluation work, manage contracts and identify strategic opportunities in partnership with the Director of OFJ. As a key leader in the department, the Deputy Director plays a backbone role in infrastructure, providing guidance to the team about internal City procedures and working with external partners. Boston residency required.
