November Literary Events at Boston Public Library Locations
Boston Public Library locations will host a variety of events for reading enthusiasts, including children’s book club meetings and author talks on a range of subjects from the Salem witch trials and historical 19th-century poems to women’s studies. Highlights include:
- Kids’ Club: Children ages five and up celebrate the 50th anniversary of Harriet the Spy through reading from the book, decorating a spy notebook, and more on Wednesday, November 5, at 4 p.m. at the Jamaica Plain Branch, located at 12 Sedgwick Street.
- BPL staff member John DeVito speaks about how the legacy of Jackie Kennedy lives on 20 years after her death on Thursday, November 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the West End Branch, located at 151 Cambridge Street.
- Book sales take place on Saturday, November 8, at 10 a.m. at the Brighton Branch, located at 40 Academy Hill Road, and on Saturday, November 15, at 10 a.m. at the Honan-Allston Branch, located at 300 North Harvard Street.
- Emerson W. Baker speaks about his book A Storm of Witchcraft: The Salem Trials and the American Experience on Wednesday, November 12, at 6 p.m. in the Abbey Room at the Central Library in Copley Square, located at 700 Boylston Street. Part of the Local & Family History Lecture Series.
- Young Readers’ Book Club: Children ages 9-13 discuss The Night Gardener and enjoy an activity on Thursday, November 13, at 4 p.m. at the West Roxbury Branch, located at 1961 Centre Street.
- Ariadne Rossl reads from and discusses her cutting-edge, nonfiction work Goddess Liberated: Feminine Love & Empowerment in a Post-Patriarchal World on Thursday, November 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the Jamaica Plain Branch, located at 12 Sedgwick Street.
- Editor Erika DeSimone discusses Voices Beyond Bondage: An Anthology of Verse by African Americans of the 19th Century, a collection of 150 poems culled from black-owned newspapers of the era. Saturday, November 15, at 2 p.m. at the Grove Hall Branch, located at 41 Geneva Avenue.
- Alysia Abbott reads from her book Fairyland: A Memoir of My Father on Tuesday, November 18, at 6 p.m. at the South End Branch, located at 685 Tremont Street. Part of the South End Writes series.
- Kids Club: Adriana Cillo from the Boston Water and Sewer Commission teaches children ways they can help prevent stormwater pollution and reads from Dwayne the Storm Drain on Wednesday, November 19, at 4 p.m. at the Jamaica Plain Branch, located at 12 Sedgwick Street.
