March is Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month is an important time to honor the achievements and resilience of women throughout history, while also acknowledging the ongoing work to achieve gender equity.

This week, the Council adopted a resolution recognizing March as Women’s History Month in the City of Boston. The resolution celebrates the contributions of women from all backgrounds and sectors, and emphasizes the continued need for advocacy and policy reforms to address issues like wage disparities, healthcare access, and gender-based violence.

The Council also acknowledged the pivotal role women in leadership have played in shaping Boston’s history and future. Councilors shared reflections on their own experiences in office, discussing the unique joys and challenges they face as women in leadership.

The resolution passed with the hope that it will inspire future generations to continue the fight for full gender equity, with an emphasis on ensuring that all women — including transgender women, non-binary individuals, and gender minorities — have the opportunity to succeed and lead in every aspect of society.
